Fresnel Free Imaging Mode (FFIM) for Transmission Electron Microscopy
Special thanks for the script to Nestor Zaluzec
Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering, University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, USA
Photon Sciences Directorate, Argonne National Laboratory, Lemont, Illinois, USA
For more please see “Fresnel Free Imaging Mode (FFIM) for Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Computationally Mediated Solution # using Spatio-Temporal Functionalization of the Illumination Optics”, Microscopy and Microanalysis, 30 (Suppl 1), 2024, 1634–1638. https://doi.org/10.1093/mam/ozae044.806
Supported HW: Spectra.
AutoScript 1.9 and higher.
Experimental variation of contrast in HREM imaging with FFIM mode Off (3a) and On (3b). Note the reduction of the superimposed Fresnel illumination contrast and the negligible effect on the local image contrast. From Microscopy and Microanalysis, 30 (Suppl 1), 2024, 1634–1638. https://doi.org/10.1093/mam/ozae044.806
Acquisition of EDS maps with rocking beam using combination of AutoScript and Velox
Special thanks for the script to Fumihiko Uesugi, National Institute for Materials Science, Tsukuba-shi Ibaraki, Japan.
For application also see Direct Mapping of Fluorine in Cation Disordered Rocksalt Cathodes by Krishna Prasad Koirala, Lin Jiang, Shripad Patil, Paolo Longo, Zhao Liu, Bert Freitag, Juri Barthel, Ethan C. Self, Yingge Du, Lee Pullan, Ted Tessner, Leslie J. Allen, Wu Xu, Wei Tong, Jagjit Nanda, and Chongmin Wang
Supported HW: Spectra, Talos. Velox 3.12 or higher.
AutoScript 1.5 and higher.
Comparison of compositional mapping and rocking beam technique. In mapping the beam is moved across the
area of interest (left) while in rocking beam mode the stationary beam s tilted in both directions on the specimen (right).
Three rocking beam maps on STO in {100} projection with different tilt ranges (half angle of 40,60,80mrad)
are shown to illustrate the maximum tilt range (upper and middle graphs). The intensity ratio map of Sr/O and
Ti/O ICP (bottom images) reveal the elemental ratio changes with different beam to crystal orientation, which
can influence quantitative compositional analysis. (Channeling)
